So long St. Kitts, till we meet again

Edmund: Babalik pa ba tayo dito?
A: Never say never.

Today, we said farewell to the twin islands St. Kitts and Nevis but not goodbye. I would like to think that we’ll find ourselves back here again soon, maybe in 2026. Why not? We’ve made several friends from St. Kitts and from other parts of the globe. We’ll assemble here again someday.

Our original departure was on July 17, but we cut it short to July 15 because we needed to send our passports to the Canadian Embassy in Los Angeles for visa stamping. We are on a cruise to Alaska next week and we have very little time left to get our visas stamped. It’s very tight but I will still try. Kung umabot eh di okay, kung hindi, okay lang din.

We have to reach California tonight so I can mail by UPS our passports before noon. If not, we lose two days.

Luckily, our flight from St. Kitts left on time. Getting through Miami’s airport was a challenge. The lay over was only 1.5 hours which was really tight. As soon as we got out of the plane, we ran and walk and ran to the immigration which seemed like kilometers away. Ang haba-haba ng nilakad at tinabo namin. Huffing and panting we were, and as soon as we reached the immigration area, ooops, I needed to pee. Ang haba ng pila. The security called my attention because I made a short-cut, I pointed at my prek-prek area. Na gets nya.

When I got out of the restroom, grabe ang daming estudyante kung saan galing. Must be hundreds of them. I squeezed through and just before it was our turn, nakaabot ako. My husband looked worried already.

Merong sore throat yung immigration officer. I was very sure. He swallowed and touched his neck before he asked us:
Where have you been and where are you going?
Edmund answered: “From St. Kitts and we’re going to San Francisco. I added, next week we’re going on a cruise to Alaska.
He nodded and let us pass through. Another running because we needed to retrieve our luggage, and check it in for our flight from Miami to San Francisco. Please remind me next time not to have checked-in luggage if I am passing through this airport. Grabe, thousands of passengers, too chaotic.

Our maleta came out after 20 minutes. Sobrang nerbyos na kami. Takbo again. We made it to the American Airlines baggage drop off counter. When we reached our departure gate, they announced that the flight would be 20 minutes late. Hay that’s perfectly okay because we’ve already checked-in our baggage and we have our boarding passes.

We reached San Francisco at midnight and the next morning, I was able to send via UPS our passports to Los Angeles.
