A friend sent Edmund the link to Spin.ph that mentioned Edmund’s name because UST entered the finals against FEU.

The UST Growling Tigers won the second finals game forcing the FEU Tigers on a winner take all third game on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Syempre Go Uste tayong lahat.

It’s big news because the last time UST and FEU battled against each other over the UAAP trophy was in 1979 when Edmund was still playing for the UST Glowing Goldies.

On that championship game, UST sadly lost to FEU because the players line up was uneven.

Spin is an online interactive news network.
Oyen clicked like. Spin contacted Oyen and asked if they could interview her dad. She gave them Edmund’s telephone number and a more recent photo of him. She also found Ed Cordero’s photo I took when he was at my office sometime ago.

Edmund’s name had been mentioned a few times this past few days in the sports articles about UST. I told him he is part of the history of UST and UAAP so every time some good news like this happens, his triumvirate with Ed Cordero and Frank Natividad could be used as historical reference.

  1. Edmund should not saddened since UST was really a no-match to FEU during that time. Many were even saying that only a miracle can make UST win the championship that year. In the 70’s UST did not win even a single game against FEU. Considering also that this is the beginning of the threepeat of FEU. Champions of 1979, 1980 and 1981.

FEU won all its games or swept all its opponents in 1980. This also marked the retirement of Edmund’s coach, Serafico.
