St. Salome and suman sa budbud

We visited the hacienda of the Ochoa’s before proceeding to Pilapila. Their santo, Saint Salome was getting ready to be brought to the church grounds in Poblacion (bayan).

The Ochoa siblings inherited this from their grandparents and they are continuing the faith. Their santo has her own chapel, a big garage and driveway for her carosa.

Pressed with time, Edmund and I still managed to visit the sprawling bungalow of Nene.

Yoly proudly showed us the trees their parents planted.

Their 7 hectares estate is full of mature trees that’s why it’s so presko there.

Yoly made this most delicious suman sa budbud. She followed the sticky rice recipe and came out with her own version, with cacang gata (coconut milk) and budbud (crispy coconut shreds)

Nene—— “Annie magpu-prusisyon ka ba na naka heels?”
A——— “May baon akong tsinelas”.
Nene—— “Ayos na ayos ka, mukha kang santo”.

I ate two pieces despite the fact that we were in a hurry. The turon with langka was also very good. I ate three pieces. We even brought home several pieces of suman. Sobra kaming nagmamadali kasi the organizers of the procession were calling me already, looking for the flowers for St. John. The procession was about to start. We better run.
