Stone hit the windshield

I was driving on the freeway last Monday afternoon, cruising at a speed of 70 miles per hour when a stone came flying towards me and hit my windshield. It created a 1.5″ in diameter crack that rippled like a flower. It’s big that’s why I don’t call it a chip.

After I parked, I looked for the stone that hit me, I found it lodged in between the hood and the windshield but I couldn’t remove it. It looks like a Nagaraya cracker nut, maybe a little bit bigger.

windshield crack,

Cracks like that can no longer be repaired. Insurance companies here agree to replace the whole windshield (auto glass) only when the crack is the size of a quarter or bigger. I called the dealer and inquired how much it would cost me to replace the whole windshield. $250 installation which takes one whole day, and $950 plus tax for the parts.

When I phoned the insurance agent, Filipina pala, Menchie ang pangalan.

There’s a $500 deductible and the insurer doesn’t agree to pay for the full dealer’s price. It’s beyond their approved pricing. The dealer would not agree to lower their price to suit the limit of the insurance company. Ako ang nasa gitna. Ako ang naiipit. I will end up paying for the difference plus the $500 parang konti lang ang babayaran ng insurance company.

I waited for half hour while the claims department was trying to contact the dealer’s service department, wala daw sumasagot, aba para rin palang sa Pilipinas dito.

She said it would take the process two hours. She would call me daw. It’s been two days and she hasn’t given me a feed back. I will contact her tomorrow. I am going home soon and I want to get this done before I leave so that I don’t inconvenience my relatives.

  1. Hi Annie,

Just a suggestion, try mo kaya safelite auto glass repair. Based on my experience, they are fast and good at replacing windshields and they sometimes have deals with insurance companies. Tanong mo lang sila. Good luck 🙂
