Strep Throat - Oh My Buhay

A week after I finished my 10 day cycle of amoxicillin 875 mg antibiotics, my sore throat is back with a vengeance. It started Friday night and kept me up last night. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t swallow. My throat is very sore.

I went to CVS this afternoon to look for some quick over the counter remedy but the store staff recommended that I go see a medical practitioner and the clinic is right there inside the CVS store.

I registered and when my name was called, I recognized that she’s Filipina pala. Very good. I didn’t need a translator. “Ang sakit ng throat ko…..”. I told her that I had finished 10 days antibiotics but the sore throat came back after a week. She looked at my tongue, my throat, my ears, nose, eyes. Checked my blood pressure (130/70), pulse (may buhay pa), hinga ng malalim, o relax lang, hinga, isa pa.

(No photos pala I just noticed it now).

She has a small kit that confirmed I have a strep throat. It’s a bacterial infection that causes pain and inflammation of the throat.

Nurse—–“Or from saliva.
A—-“Wala naman akong ka-lips to lips, wala akong kaulayaw”.

Nurse—-“Nagpalit ka ba ng toothbrush?”
A——–“Hinde”.
Nurse—–“Ayun, dapat pinalitan mo ng dalawang beses before you started with the antibiotics and right after you took the last dosage”.
A——–“Oh, I didn’t know”.

She prescribed Augmentin for 10 days. When the pharmacist named Kim learned that the 20 tablets would cost me &68+, she said “you don’t have an insurance, the medicines would cost you sixty eight dollars. I’ll see if I can get you a discount”. From $68, I paid $30+ for the medicine. Plus $164 for the consultation and tests.

I also bought three pieces of toothbrush. From now on I will change my toothbrush every two weeks, kahit exaggerated, or maybe I will buy yung disposable, meron sa Divisoria.
