I decided to stay for a night in Tagaytay to lessen the amount of time I am spending on the road. The problem actually is not to and from Tagaytay. It’s coming home. It’s the one hour traffic just to negotiate a two kilometer stretch from Market Market to that stupid U turn ramp that has eaten up on one lane of an already narrow road.

My daughter helped me booked on the phone. She booked me a room at Tagaytay Haven Hotel located behind Jollibee restaurant. I’ve been seeing this big hotel for a few years now and it looked decent and generally new.

I got there at 7 pm.

I chose a room at the front with balcony. I also got a room a regular room for my driver because there’s no drivers quarters.

No wifi, but with in-room breakfast, just call when ready to eat.

Hotel staff— “Mam, total is five thousand five hundred seventy five”.
OMB———– “How did it become five thousand eh two thousand three hundred plus one thousand four hundred plus…”
Hotel staff—- “It’s five thousand….”
OMB———— “What’s the breakdown?”

She used her calculator again.
Hotel staff—- “Mam, it’s four thousand, five thousand…”
OMB———— “Miss, ano ba yan, may calculator ka ba?”

I finally got two keys, for me and my driver. Abah, our rooms are opposite each other.

When I saw my room, it’s total regret. Naawa ako sa sarili ko. The ceiling had tulo marks. I could hear every passing vehicle and people’s conversations. There’s a big insect on the wall. I pukpok with my slippers. Yucks. Buti na lang hindi spider at kung hindi, nahimatay ako.

When I entered the toilet, I promised myself that I would just and pee and shower when I reach home the next day. The flat tv screen was too small for my failing eyesight. Blurred screen. No wifi. I felt like itinapon kung saan. Maybe it’s just me, or it’s just this room that needed upgrading.

My husband was calling, worried about me. He scolded me for making tipid daw. He said ang pili-pili ko when we are traveling tapos dito magtitipid ako ng few thousand. I told him hindi ako nagtitipid, I chose the hotel because my meetings were around that area. He wanted me to transfer to Taal Vista Lodge.

In fairness to Tagaytay Haven, good features are the spaciousness of the room, it has balcony for people who likes to sampay their towels in the sun, it has bright and spacious hallways, lounge with decent leather sofas and the staircase is wide. Meron pa silang mini gym.

I was meeting with a civil engineer who was recommended to me by his relative who’s a landscaper. Our appointment was at 8 pm inside Jollibee. They live in Tagaytay, just a few blocks from our meeting place. I called the landscaper to make sure they would be there on time. He said they are on their way. Good.

8:15 wala pa sila, I called and he said “mam, malapit na ho kami”.
8:30 wala pa sila. Ay naku dun pala sa Jollibee sa Sta. Rosa, Laguna nagpunta. Kunsumisyon. Hayun, they arrived at almost 9 pm. Malapit ng magsara ang Jollibee.

Our meeting ended at almost 10 pm. When I entered the hotel lobby, there was a group of people watching Bea Alonzo, Albert Martinez, etc. Nakipanood din ako. After the program alisan na yung mga guests, ako rin I went up to my room on the second floor.

I couldn’t blog, no wifi. I couldn’t sleep, noisy. I couldn’t wash my hands, kasi parang ewan yung lababo. I didn’t want to change into my daster, para ready to go. I thought of just driving back to Manila. I was trying to hold on to my pee pero hindi pwede, matagal pa ang bukas, baka magkasakit ako sa bato.

My daughter called profusely apologizing for booking me in this hotel. I said “no anak, it’s not your fault. It’s decent naman and new, baka my room lang. I will be fine”.

And I was fine. I had a good sleep sa pagod ko. Kahit maingay natulog din ako. Except my demanding driver was texting me at 6 am kasi daw the housekeeping would not serve his breakfast. I had to call the front desk to give him food.
Front desk—– “Mam, kanina pa ho sya kumain”.

I have a meeting with the owner of the neighboring property regarding their encroachment. I had to take a shower or else, hindi ako sanay magbihis ng dehin goli. Now , I have to break my promise not to shower.

Hay ang lamig ng tubig. I didn’t want to use the portable plastic heater yung mga nakadikit sa dingding?
First, I poured water muna on my feet. Grrr ginaw.
Second, up to my tuhod. Grrr ginaw.
Third, up to my thighs. Grrr ginaw.
Next sa bewang, Then sa shoulders, then sa ulo. Grrrrr, ginaw!

Konting sabon lang tapos na, I will just bathe again when I get home. Basta mabasa lang ng konti pwede na.

  1. Hi Ms. Annie,

I have been reading your blog for more than a year na and you don’t fail to amuse and amaze me.

I’ve been to Tagaytay Haven twice or thrice na and the experience just gets worse.

The last time, I found an insect on the bed so I couldn’t sleep for fear na pumasok sya sa shorts ko. Hehe. And I was so afraid to use the restroom.

Anyway, lesson learned. Hindi lahat pede bigyan ng chance.

God bless po and continue to inspire al of us.
