Tawid Silver Crafts - Oh My Buhay

Tawid (pronounced as ta-wid), is a silver jewelry making family business of the Rimando’s of Baguio. It was started by Mr. & Mrs. Reynaldo Rimando 20 long years ago.

048

Tawid only makes jewelry pieces in sterling silver.
050

051

Mrs. Wilhelmina Rimando is the artist between the couple.
052

They received several awards from the Department of Science and Technology.
053

According to Rey Rimando, they are the number one silver jewelry company in Baguio in terms of quality and craftsmanship.
054

055

The leaves, including the chain and links are all made of sterling silver.

Look at the detail
058

We’ve seen how the workers painstakingly make these pieces by hand. One must have a 20/20 eyesight otherwise, the pieces would be full of imperfections.
059

Rey is a college professor at UP Baguio. He teaches math and according to him, he’s a difficult professor. Hala kayo, mag-aral mabuti.

View from Tawid’s top floor showroom. Nagka-hingal-hingal kami pag-akyat. Para akong umakyat sa Mt. Everest. As if naman nakaakyat na ako. Parang groto sa taas.
064

I found their jewelry prices reasonable. They’re not cheap stuff. These are quality items you’ll be proud to wear.
068

Rey brought us to their workshop on the lower floor. Their skilled craftsmen are generally young.

070

Nalimutan ko tawag dito, tila silver plate. This is pure silver.
071

One whole floor is occupied by different kinds of tools and machines.
072

Rey’s passion is gardening. This azalea is located at the entrance to their workshop building.
073

Rey was so accommodating and hospitable. Before we left, he even opened their own private enclave and let us in. His wife designed their cozy and homy residence. The living room is full of their 3 sons’ photos and family memento.
074

Bong, Len, and I, all liked the house’s appeal. Para syang vacation house. Bagay talaga sa Baguio.

I don’t wear borloloys except for simple diamond jewelry. Pero masyado akong na-engganyo dito sa Tawid. I ended up buying one heirloom piece, designed by Rey himself. It’s made of sterling silver with aqua blue colored antique semi-precious stone. It was in the iskaparate standing beside the door. When I asked Rey “how much is this?” He said P45,000. Tapos nakita ko yung tag-price P29,000. I told him “29 yung tag”. He was surprised and gladly gave it to me for P29k.
Matagal na pala yun dun. His wife was the one who priced it long time ago.

The good thing about that piece is it’s one of a kind. They wouldn’t make another one exactly the same.

I said “for my daughter”. When I tried it on “Oh, it looks good on me”. From the tag price, he gave me P2,000 off. Rey and his son Daniel, a UP Diliman graduate of Business, would be at the American Women’s Club of the Philippines’ Bazaar at the World Trade Center on tuesday from 9 am to 2 pm. I would go there to pay and pick-up the two necklaces. Wala kasi akong pera when I visited their showroom in Baguio.

I went to Tawid looking for a set of tea pot and cup for single serve, I ended up buying borloloys. Maisuot ko naman kaya yung mga yun. I have to, kundi sayang naman. Pero yung isang may aqua stone, baka magmukha akong lola, medyo old fashioned.
Sige na nga, let’s see if I would look as regal as Queen Anne. Ilusyon!

Call Rey at 09175240320, he would meet you up at the foot of the Grotto, then follow his vehicle.
Going by yourself could be tricky, medyo mahirap hanapin. Their house and showroom are at the back of another house. Their driveway is as steep as Kennon Road.
