There are extreme medical conditions wherein the doctors would advise the mother immediate termination of pregnancy. One cause is Trisomy 18, also called Edward’s Syndrome. It is caused by an error in cell division and by an extra chromosome 18. During the routine pre-natal sonogram and blood tests, doctors would be able to detect abnormalities in the baby, like a deformed head or missing organ. Edward’s Syndrome is fatal and babies don’t survive the birth or die within the first two weeks.
I don’t know how I am feeling right now. Our friend’s pregnancy at five months was terminated due to Edward’s Syndrome. The doctors deemed it best to abort it.
My imagination is running wild. Naaawa ako dun sa baby. It was alive, beginning to kick, breathing, when it was aborted. Sabi daw the baby was suctioned out using a vacuum. I can’t imagine. The baby was still alive when she was sucked out. The parents did not inform the hospital prior to the operation that they would either cremate and take home the ashes. And to give the baby a proper burial. I feel bad. That was a human being with a soul.
I believe in angels. Maybe God will turn their baby into a cute angel.
