For the past ten years, his house has become a delight to the residents of Vallejo, Fairfield, Hercules, and other neighboring cities. For one whole month in December, the house of Mr. Taylor transforms into this magical place full of Christmas lights and Disney characters.
His house sits on a hill and it’s strategically located at a corner with no front neighbors. It has a good view of the city and hills.
How did it start? Mr. Taylor’s son from his first marriage was fond of decorating their home every holiday season. Ten years ago, this boy died in a plane crash while traveling within the US. In honor of his son, Mr. Taylor continued his son’s tradition. It brings him joy seeing the hundreds of people especially children marvel at his well lit house which has become a tourist destination during Christmas time.
I’ve seen people bringing brand new toys as a show of appreciation to the owners.
Those toys are collected by a non-profit organization for distribution to poor kids.
Mr. Taylor’s wife is a Filipina from Pampanga.
They imported the life-sized cartoon characters and figurines from the exporters in Pampanga.
Even adults are enjoying. I waited for a group of older women to finish taking selfie photos with Snoopy before I was able to take this photo.
A Vallejo fire truck arrived.
Santa got off the truck, waved, shook hands, kissed, and greeted chhildren and adults alike. “Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas”.
Just like Mr. and Ms. Taylor, the fireman has a mission— to bring cheer to people including ME.
