The Gift of Aurora Borealis - Oh My Buhay

The gift of Aurora Borealis

With God’s blessings I might be able to see the Aurora Borealis next year courtesy of my daughter. Yen is the one doing all the planning. Sama lang ako. Ever since I told her that one of my childhood curiosities is to see the Aurora Borealis, she started researching and looking for the right travel planner to help us. She found a group based in London that specializes in Northern Light’s tours. I just feel sad that my son won’t be with us. It would be a double blessing sana if the four of us will have a photo under the Borealis and it would be more fun kung kaming apat  ay magsisiksikan sa loob ng igloo habang ginaw na ginaw.

We invited some of Edmund’s friends to join us but travels like this require decisiveness. The igloos are limited, the small planes have limited seats, dapat kung gusto, wag ng isipin, just do it. My daughter said we have to do it asap because by 2018 the aurora will no longer be as bright because of the effects of global warming. And she also said that the older I get the more difficult it would be to cope with the negative 20-30 degrees temperature. She’s worried I might not be able to withstand the extreme cold.   We can’t wait till Edmund and I are too old for the cold.

A few days ago, BBC Earth featured the mystery of the Northern Lights or Aurora. Because they have professional cameras they were able to capture the magnificent images clearly.

Seeing the Aurora Borealis in real life would be a gift from above.

  1. Hi Annie!

Hope you’ll be bless with clear skies during your trip. It was also one our hope to see the aurora during our trip to Alaska last September. We availed a land and sea journey with cruise first and land tour after that ended in Fairbanks, Alaska. We timed our arrival in Alaska during the new moon. Unfortunately, the aurora forecast during our stay was low, kp index was 3. And it was cloudy. We saw the aurora in the small break in the clouds. Had we availed the package with land tour first, we might had witness the aurora. Aurora forecast is only available I think 20 days in advance. During the days when we were on cruise, kp index was 6. Those who arrived just a day ahead of us in Fairbanks was able to witness it just by going out of the hotel.

Enjoy your trip and happy Aurora hunting!

    Regards,

    Luming

  2. Hi Luming,
The dates suggested to us by the tour operator in London are supposed to give us a high percentage of witnessing the Aurora Borealis. We are also going to very remote areas.
    Thank you.

  3. Hey Annie! Let me know how much is the package 🙂 Aurora Borealis is in my bucket list. Do I need an igloo mate?
