The Gift shaped like a horse - Oh My Buhay

The Gift shaped like a horse

Beginning last year, I started giving art to my children as Christmas gifts.

Christmas comes every year. One day I would no longer be around to put a gift or two under our Christmas tree. I hope that the art pieces I gave them would remind them of me, my life, and may they be inspired by the world around them.

The heavy gift that my son thought was a rocking horse is a wood and brass sculpture created by Ronald P. Castrillo. It’s titled “My Balloons My Bike”.

My Baloons My Bike

The artwork symbolizes many things in my son’s life.

The boy is riding a bicycle while holding with his right hand seven balloons in different colors. He has to balance his ride to traverse the uneven wooden block to reach his destination. Challenges in our lives abound. My son must learn how to navigate steadily thru the uneven surface of life. How to go over the humps, bumps and crevices of life. He must be strong enough to ride through the wonders of life while holding on to his dreams. He must have focus and determination or he could fall. If he falls because he got distracted, then he must know how to stand up and push his bike upright and start pedaling again. He must not lose sight of where he wants to go. To the golden tree of life.

  1. Nice piece Ms. Annie! Who wouldve guessed that a beautiful art piece is whats behind that horse shaped present. I’m sure hindi lang si Sir Nyke ang na-surprise when it was opened. 🙂

its actually a nice symbolic representation of a mother’s love. The art piece doesnt have to have a “mother” in it to be seen as such. Just knowing that its a mother’s gift to her son is enough to understand the symbolism behind it. Your children are lucky to have you as their mom. Your love for them is actually very evident thru your posts. 🙂

Thanks Ms. Annie for this post. Akala ko kasi hindi ko na malalaman ang misteryo behind the horse shaped present. Hehe..
