The Old Town of St. Andrews is a short walk from Hotel du Vin. We discovered the hotel’s back door which cuts the distance by three blocks. We are also able to avoid the wind tunnels coming from the Links.
Everyday I get to walk 10,000 or more steps easily. Sometimes my feet and legs hurt. I just ask for a time out from my companions and then we walk again after several minutes. Walking is one of the things I enjoy when I am traveling to another country. But I never enjoy walking inside a mall. I don’t walk from store to store. I go straight to the store that I like then I just look for a spot to rest while waiting for my family.
Here in Europe, we don’t go to shopping malls. We walk thru quaint towns and villages. it’s a blessing to be able to do this.
Although the Old Town is generally small in acreage, there’s so much to see. Lots of cute stores.
I enjoy shopping in Old Town or quaint villages with small specialty stores usually manned by the owners themselves. I feel their love and attachment for what they do. They take great pride in the number of years that they’ve been at that store location. There’s always a story behind their small business and I find joy in listening to them. I feel their emotions. Their stories remind me of my parents doing business in Binangonan.
This 5 recycled bottles is perfect for a cottage style house.
St. Andrews’ Old Town is small. If you stay here for a couple of days, after three days you would run out of stores to visit. They do have lots of bookstores and cafes. You can spend hours enjoying small town living.
My daughter bought a book here for my son.
Fresh tulips are every where. They are on the sidewalks, street planter boxes, window sills, and at random places.
Doors of houses are painted in colorful hues.
This fountain is at the center of the Old Town. According to the hotel front desk officer, long time ago, residents gathered around this plaza to watch the New Year fireworks display.
He said, that was when everybody knew everyone in the village. When doors were not locked unlike today.
Big corner stone house for sale
This house looks grand and is located on a main street. There’s the telephone number of the broker. I haven’t called to inquire. You might want to buy it instead, I’ll just ask for a complimentary 5 days stay once every 2 years.
