We were up early because today’s the day we’re going to Niagara Falls. Not a perfect day because it was pouring.
The buffet breakfast was mediocre. There were only two guys attending to the whole restaurant maybe because it was still early. The other guy was grouchy and kept on complaining about his job. He should just go home and rest.
We put on more clothing before getting on the bus. It must be difficult living in a place where it’s always snowy and icy. It’s physically exhausting getting ready in the morning. Hard to take a shower. I get migraine attacks after a while from the heavy layers of clothing weighing down on my nape and shoulders.
Rain and snow are a very bad combination. My winter clothes were also not matchy-matchy. Basta madoble-doble lang for survival. My socks belonged to Oyen and they didn’t match either.
My daughter said I looked like a homeless person.
All our tickets and boat ride were paid by Ramon Dimacali, president of Federal Phoenix.
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York (Wikipedia).
Oyen thought it would be best that I don’t join in the Main of the Mist boat ride. She was worried I would get sea sick and we would be in trouble.
I dind’t want to be left behind so I decided I would go. My daughter wasn’t sure if that’s the right decision. Ayaw ko namang maiwan. And I didn’t know where I would wait for them. Walang kublihan, ang ginaw-ginaw.
From this point, no more turning back.
Oyen was more prepared for this kind of weather and negative temperature. She knew how to manage it having survived five harsh winters in Manhattan.
We were each given a blue plastic to protect us from the rain, wind and cold.
My daughter helped me put it on and made sure I was wrapped like a baby. It helped a little. We had to wait for the next boat for about half hour in open air. I thought I would get sick from this extreme weather. I psyched myself up. Bawal ang magkasakit.
There’s no more backing-out. My daughter was still worried about me. She was holding me tightly baka kasi mahulog ako. Parang may kasamang bata or 90 year old lola hehehe.
Those brave enough went up to the deck. Yung ibang mga Asian tourists, agawan sila para nasa unahan ng boat. Lalo na yung mga neighbors natin na invaders, naku parang mauubusan ng Niagara Falls kung makasiksik at manulak.
Ang sarap ihulog sa tubig.
Oyen wanted to cross to the Canadian side where the view is allegedly better but we didn’t have time.
