We’re all scattered in several hotels because Grand Hyatt could not accommodate all of us. Some are in Beijing Hotel, I am in Grand Hotel which is on the same street as the first two. Tony Tan Caktiong and Dick Penson made their own bookings at the Shangri-la which is almost an hour away.
When I entered my room, I got depressed right away. It has no outer or exterior window. I could see the inner court and the windows in the other wing. It’s big, with sala, dining table, desk and one separate room for two large beds. The bathroom is oversized but didn’t impress me because it’s more of old than elegant.
I wasted no time in contacting the front desk to request for a change. At first the guy, Nick, said they cannot change because that’s the one assigned to me by the travel agent. He also told me that they gave me a suite room.
I went down to the lobby. I saw the tour coordinator and she told me I could not change because the room assignment was pre-arranged by the travel agent.
Nick told me they cannot change my room and I have to talk to the travel agent. I told him to dial the agent’s number. He also told me if I change my room, they cannot give me another suite room. I said fine. I didn’t ask for a suite room, I am only by myself I don’t need a large room. He also mentioned that I paid for a suite room. I told him to refund to me the difference. He said they cannot. It’s the same rate as a smaller room. Of course there’s a price difference. Oo na basta na lang ilipat nyo ako ng room.
He contacted the travel agent. Then he told me to look at the room first to see if I will like it. He brought me to room 4117 (my room now). It’s still being cleaned. It’s a regular room. As soon as I saw the large window overlooking the front parking and trees, I said okay right away.
The room was ready in ten minutes. I moved my luggage right away. I was very tired and not feeling so well.
I have two double beds. One to sleep, one to put my bag and other kalat.
I feel more comfortable here. It doesn’t feel dingy, it has lots of natural light.
