I just want to stay in bed in our tiny Hotel Nikko room and watch CNN news about the El Paso Shooting in Texas. Very sad and scary.
My daughter thinks 6 pm is too early to retire for the night. Eh syempre young people have more energy. So we went down to Union Square as a form of exercise and to enjoy the city.
Dog paparazzi bronze sculptures on Powell St.
This guy sold candies and chocolates for a dollar each. The smile on his face was priceless when he realized we were actually buying. His facial expression exuded a hint of gratitude and appreciation. A few meters past him, I turned around and saw him looking at us with that same smile. It was like he froze in time. God bless this guy. I wish more people would buy candies from him.
We walked into Walgreens looking for something to munch on and drink. The line was long and all the cashiers were busy.
We’ve been to Charles Krug in St. Helena. Seeing the many wines from Napa produced by the wineries we’ve visited made us feel more oriented and cultured. We felt more familiar and learned.
I didn’t know that hard-boiled eggs are now available in ready to eat packs. Mahilig talaga ako sa eklok. I bought a pack of 4. They were kind of hard. Kaya nga ang tawag ay hard-boiled. I know.
While I was choosing some eggs, the alarm continuously sounded. When I looked at the entrance, three black women were going out of the Walgreens store each with a tote bag bigger than the ordinary. The bags were maumbok, items were sticking up on the lining. No one came to stop them or to check their belongings. When we were paying, I told the Filipina cashier what I just saw. She said it always happens. People just coming to the store and picking up anything they want. Walgreens employees are not allowed to accost them. She said that two Filipino store managers lost their job because they ran after the thieves. Instead of receiving a note of gratitude, commendation for bravery and concern for the store’s welfare, the two male managers were fired.
While Oyen was standing in front of the GAP store at the corner of Market and Powell where the tourists queue up to ride the trams to Fisherman’s Wharf, there was a homeless guy standing too and staring at the jeans on the shelves right at the entrance of the store. Oyen went inside the store sensing that something bad would happen. She looked for the store security men and the two were busy conversing with someone and they were facing each other and not the entrance. All of a sudden, the guy entered the GAP store and scooped the jeans with his two arms and ran outside. The store’s Asian staff and one African – American security guy ran after the homeless guy. In a few minutes, they were back with the jeans. They got back the clothes but they didn’t call the police. These things enable thieves to keep on doing it because they know that the worst thing that could happen is they will get nothing but they will never go to jail and be fined. Tsk Tsk.
