July 14, 2013 New York
From Guy American Kitchen, Marie & Ernie dropped us off at 29th Street. Ernie is not used to taking buses or subways so even if parking is expensive in Manhattan, they brought a car to our lunch.
Instead of getting off at 34th Street, Angie kept on postponing it, dun na lang sa 32nd, maya-maya, dun na lang sa 29th. It was hot kasi to walk kaya we didn’t even want to get off their comfortable car. Para bang gusto na naming sumama sa bahay nila Marie sa New Jersey.
The area around 34th Street is full of perfume stores and most of them are wholesalers. Kung ang style mo ay yung maamoy pa rin ang bango simula alas nwebe ng umaga hanggang alas nwebe ng gabi, you need to hoard on perfumes. At 34th Street, you can save around 20% – 30% depending on how you look, how you sound.
The best way is to sound like you’ve known the store clerks and managers forever.
Angie is a pro when it comes to that. Words like “my friend”, “how’s your wife?” could save you five dollars a bottle. They would never know that you’re not really friends or you haven’t met their wife. You have to look and sound like you sincerely care for their family. They have many Filipino customers so careful with your words. They could pick up some basic words.
There’s a Filipina from Florida with an American husband who asked us where they could find a Filipino restaurant. That area is a Korean town. Rows of Korean restaurants dominate 34th st. Walang adobo, sinigang na kanduli sa miso at okoy dyan.
Angie told them to go to Queens instead. Ang layo naman nun. Mag-te-train pa sila.
I didn’t find the perfume that Edmund wanted. Wala na daw, phase out na.
About 12+ years ago, while the two of us were walking in the streets of Paris, meron kaming nadaanan na weekend flea market. He was able to buy a bottle of Belami perfume by Hermes. He liked it a lot, tinipid tipid nya. Angie found another bottle in 34th street siguro 5 years ago, Pero ngayon wala na kaming nakita.
It’s so hot, Angie and I went inside Tous les Jous Bakery. Grabe and ingay at init kasi punung-puno ng tao. Mostly younger people. Eh syempre, sila yung with no diabetes.
usung uso macarons no? Baka sa palengke sa Taytay meron na rin nito.
Angie and I had some pastries. She had coffee, I had sprite.
Ang ingay talaga, namamalat na ako competing with the noise so we went out and looked for a more comfortable place to rest. Angie would narrate to me her life story, I need a quiet and cold place to focus.
There’s a hotel across Macy’s. Their coffee shop is classy, so duon kami nagpunta.
To make sure I got the details of Angie’s buhay, I got a pen and a pad of paper I took from Glen cove Mansion. Angie has a very interesting life story, specifically LOVE life, however, masyadong controversial,
“Anne, huwag mong ilagay yan ha?”
Pag inalis ko yung mga interesting facts, wala ng matitira sa story nya, puro boring na. Baka kasi awayin sya nung mga involved. Kaya I stopped jotting down notes. Nakinig na lang ako.
