UNO - Oh My Buhay

I met the young guys behind the tremendous success of Unlimited Network of Opportunities (UNO) when I was still operating VOLVO in front of Podium. There’s a showroom space vacated by Jaguar and UNO’s group inquired about the space. I had no idea who they were and what they do.
They told me they sold membership online and some products.

After a while, neighboring buildings and offices would frequently complain about the hundreds or thousands of young people that congregated every night at their office. I didn’t know. It was only after my attention was called by the barangay that I found out that UNO’s a multi-level marketing company that’s why there were so many people that visited their office.

Both the police, barangay and Ortigas center’s security people surrounded UNO’s office to control the noise created by the young crowd, who were apparently, agents, or members of UNO.

I was told that these young people were clapping their hands and shouting for joy. The barangay was theorizing that they probably got their commissions kaya they were so loud and happy.

UNO is currently located at the corner of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue. It’s good that they have their own compound to accommodate thousands of their members/agents. And their claps and laughter are drowned by the noisy buses and MRT that pass by EDSA. With their continued exponential success, it’s only a matter of time that they would have their own building or complex.

UNO’s operation has grown soooooooooo big. When I first met them 10 years ago, they told me they had 40,000 members. That figure doubled after only a few years. When I saw Oliver Chua (UNO’s Chief Operating Officer and one of the founders) last week, he told me they now have 600,000 +++ members and still growing exponentially. They’ve gone global, putting up stations in Dubai, HK, Macau, US, Europe, and Singapore. Lagi ko siyang binibiro “alam ko na kung kanino ako mangungutang”.

UNO joined the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), that’s why Oliver was at the membership meeting last week. He was among the new members who took their oath. I introduced him to Donald Dee, Jun Ortiz, etc.
