My husband takes pride in saying that he never relied on Waze. He has a fantastic sense of direction and for 30 years of visiting the US and driving around their wide roads and breezing thru America’s freeways, he never needed GPS.
Hmmm, I think that era is gone.
He’s been driving around Las Vegas for more than two weeks now and still gets lost going to the same hotel and restaurant every day. He takes wrong exits and it’s no longer unusual making U-turns to go back to the right road. Then we’ll make the same mistake again.
A—–“Gusto mo ba i on ko Waze?”
E—–“WAG NAAA!, pampagulo pa yan. Never akong nag-rely dyan sa Waze-waze na yan”.
After a few minutes….
E—–“Tart, saan tayo kakanan? Sa Flamingo ba?”
A—–“Teka, i-o-on ko, ang bagal pa naman nitong phone ko. No service pa. Sabi mo kasi hindi mo kailangan”.
E——“Wag na, alam ko na”.
Next day:
A—–” i on ko Waze”.
E—–“Hindi na, kabisado ko na ito. Araw-araw dyan tayo dumadaan”.
A—–“Okay”.
E—–“Ano exit natin?”
And the next:
A—–“i on ko Waze, wala akong signal”.
E—–“kabisado ko na yan. Madali lang kalsada dito sa Las Vegas, diretso lang ma-hi-hit mo na Flamingo”.
After one minute
E——“Ay shh…. nalampas tayo, ang layo na naman iikutan natin”.
And the next:
A——“Tart, parang dito na tayo galing kanina, umikot ikot na tayo. Ay ayun ang airport. Bakit tayo napunta dito sa airport?”
We found ourselves driving thru unfamiliar territories.
A—–“Mainam naman naligaw tayo, we’ve never been to this side. Naka explore tayo”.
