We have a new chef. She arrived on Monday morning, and yesterday morning Friday, she told me she’s leaving. Four days lang. Give up na sya.
Reason? No one has ever told her we have dogs. I usually tell the maids during phone interview that we have dogs. I couldn’t recall if I forgot to inform her beforehand. I just remembered the first thing that she told me over the phone when I asked if she’s married. Her firm reply was “Mam, man hater ako”.
She seems to be a nice person.
She gets headaches daw when she smells the pee of Stitch and Tyler.
I called the other lady, to make sure she cleans the floor in the kitchen thoroughly. And to consistently walk the two dogs outside at 5 am and at 5 pm.
The new cook was recommended to me by Tess. She came from the household of Lucio Tan, and 4 years with a Singaporean diplomat. She’s been to Canada, Hongkong, Singapore, etc. Her most recent job was in a catering company. She was one of the cooks. The catering closed two weeks ago because they lost money according to her.
I was hopeful she would cook better than our previous cook. I was inspired to buy different kinds of ingredients. I stocked up on more items thinking that our new cook would have better ideas on what to feed us.
As a start, I made her list down her favorite dishes. From there, we would choose our menu for the whole week. Actually it’s difficult to do this structured thing because we seldom eat at home. Even if I knew we wouldn’t be able to eat the delicious food she would prepare, at least matikman lang namin.
She swears she knows all kinds of pasta and kare-kare is her specialty.
I asked if she knows how to cook lengua, “specialty ko mam yan”.
For the past four days, she cooked fried chicken 3 times (Antonia the second).
No tinola.
Last night I was excited to eat dinner because she cooked adobong pusit. Or so I thought. I couldn’t chew the squid. She overcooked them. And it’s not adobo, she dumped 3/4 bottle of the oyster sauce I bought from Rustan’s last tuesday.
Nahinayang ako kasi the squid were fresh and I even asked the employee of Rustan’s to choose the nicest ones. Tapos eto hindi namin nakain.
eto na lang dinner ko, bread with coco jam.
This morning, she cooked sopas. Sopas is my favorite. Hayun, walang lasa. I was again disappointed. I tried to repair it pero I have to start from the beginning. Not to be mean, baka kaya nagsara yung catering eh dahil hindi masarap yung luto nila?
I sent her to the market to buy whatever ingredient she wants for the lengua and for her specialty. I want to give her a chance to impress me. So far, we haven’t tried anything special. Maybe too late because she;s leaving soon. She hates our dogs.
Ms. Anne, my dream kitchen. All stainless, no need to worry about anay, etc. 🙂 Love your blog!
