I see this tourist information blue umbrella everyday. It moves from one side to another around the Vorosmarty square in Vaci ut.
I bought two dinner cruise tickets for Nov 2, 2015. The guy gave me the discounted student rate of 10,800 forint instead of the adult rate of 11,600. He told me to keep the receipt in case something happens like if the boat doesn’t show up. I thought why would he say that? The boat would not show up? That would be weird.
I did what I was told. I kept the receipt.
Our hotel is just a few steps from where the boats dock. We went to the meeting place at 6 pm but we didn’t find any one. Because (I thought) I knew where the boat is, I suggested to Edmund that we just proceed directly to the boat.
The security at the boat entrance didn’t let us in. He said that’s not the boat. Edmund and I walked about 200 meters to the next boat. Nope, that’s not the one either. To the next, no either. That’s a floating restaurant, they don’t move. Maybe the boat is on the other side of the Chains Bridge. We crossed the street, went up and down two stairs, crossed a dark alley under the bridge with some street people, then walked on the sand to the next boat, some 300 meters away. Nope, that’s not the boat either. Maybe we should go back to the pick up point, at the corner of the Duno Palace.
We were not allowed to get any closer because there’s a top government official about to board his car.
We met a tall British guy talking on the phone. He’s also looking for the dinner cruise boat. We walked together, back to the dock. We walked and forth along the river bank looking for the boat with blue lights. No blue lights. No boat. Maybe that’s the one. Or that one. My shoes were very kind that night. I was able to walk several kilometers without any problem.
It’s 7:05 pm and boat cruises at 7 pm. That’s means we missed it.
I went back to the big boat, several captain-looking guys plus two security were standing at the gate. I told them I need their help. That I am looking for the dinner cruise boat.
I showed to them the brochure and our dinner cruise voucher.
The captain told me
“This couldn’t be the boat. Because this boat is going to Vienna”. Do you want to come with us to Vienna?
A—-“Oh no, I don’t want to go to Vienna”.
Lakad uli kami to the other boat, nope. Give-up!!!
And where is that effing boat?
