I left the office tonight at exactly seven pm. I planned on leaving at 3 but it didn’t happen. That cost me an extra hour in the traffic.
Thanks Traffic It’s Friday.
Edmund called me up at 7:31 pm asking where I was. He said we’re eating at home.
I told him I was in the traffic could take at least 30 more minutes. He said it’s okay because he’s still in the driving range.
At 8 pm, I was still in darkness. Other vehicles, including the buses, were getting so close to my vehicle, parang 4 inches away. I told the driver not to squeeze-in and to just let the other vehicles go forward. Not worth the abala and expense in case we got hit. And for sure, the other drivers would even be the ones screaming at us. Baka mainis din ako eh hampasin ko pa sila ng Ipad 2 ko.
Oh wow, road rage.
8:30 I, all of a sudden, remembered, Oh my God, today’s the 16th and in just a little over a week, my husband would celebrate another year. When he turned 50, we had a big party at home. I think he doesn’t want to have a party na. Nai-stress. For sure, the 4 of us would just go to a nice restaurant. Mas relax.
I have to think of a nice gift. Something he would like, for a change, kasi he never liked any of my gifts.
Several years ago, I had a bright idea. I thought of giving him a set of golf clubs. In my mind, at least that would be a sure bet– he would definitely like that.
Since I didn’t know anything about golf gadgets, I just thought, maybe the more expensive, the better quality. So I went to a golf store in Megamall. As soon as I walked in, I approached the male sales staff. Ang yabang ko.
A———- “Alin dito yung pinakamahal na golf clubs?”
Male SS—- “Mam, hayun o?”
A———- “Maganda ba ito? Kasi birthday gift ko sa husband ko”.
He mentioned the brand, but I forgot what he said.
A———- “Iyan ba ang pinaka-mahal?”
Male——- “Yes mam, from Japan”.
A———- “Sige, how much is that?”
Male SS—- “One hundred forty five thousand”.
Namutla ako bigla. Grabe, ang mahal pala.
A———- “Ahhh, may discount ba yun?”
Male SS—- “wala ho”.
A———- “Sige, thank you”.
Ang bilis kong lumabas. Sana hindi ako natandaan nung lalaki at nakakahiya. Napaka hambog ko pa mandin. Cannot afford pala!
I went to a golf store in Podium instead. I bought him a nice sports bag and a golf shirt.
Total about P10,000+. Awa ng Dyos, I haven’t seen him wearing the shirt. I know where the bag is, it’s in the storage room near the garage.
Here comes his birthday again. What gift shall I give kaya?
Hi Annie
Many thanks for writing about this – I thought I was the only one struggling this kind of dilemma. Rico even told me once “cash mo na lang, next time” with a playful smile on his face. I feel frustrated at times because after all these years we have been married, plus those years that we were dating (all – nearly 3 decades) di ko pa rin makuha talaga. But I refuse to give him cash as I do not want to give up.
Please give my birthday greetings to Edmund. As always, enjoyed reading your blog, love your humbling encounter with the salesman!
Cheers, Rissa
