What the election made us

I think this is the most interesting, most talked about and followed presidential election. Because of easy connectivity thru the use of television, cellular phones and internet, the whole country including those Filipinos working and or living abroad are very much involved and up to date with what’s happening, what the candidates and their supporters are saying, etc.

And oh boy, we Filipinos found the perfect opportunity to express the kind of thoughts many of us carry in our minds and hearts. The election brought out the worst in us. We were enabled to criticize for no reason at all and say very rude and nasty things about the candidates, and to people who also expressed their views on things. My fear is that this election has demonstrated who we really are as a people. We are mean and shallow.

This day is wild. We are all eagerly awaiting for the updates on who’s winning and who’s losing.

In the coming days, when it’s becoming clear who won, let’s calm down and stop our meanness. Once a person has been elected as president, he is no longer the candidate that we either voted or hated. He/she now becomes an INSTITUTION, the president of the Philippines. And we are duty bound to give our respect and support.

  1. Hi Ms. OMB. I voted for Miriam because she’s the only one I know who had not been involved in such corruption compared to her counterparts who have served the government for more than 12-20 years. Sa lahat ng mga kandidatong iyan, she has the strength and endurance of a true leader.

    1. Miriam is my son’s choice.
Poverty will always exist whoever wins. A single president cannot eradicate poverty completely no matter what he does. The new president can lay the groundwork so that our country keeps on moving forward and citizens are productive.
