When Junie first came to Taiwan, the only friends she had were the ones also from their town who were recruited by the same placement agency.
They all paid P30,000 each to cover for the processing fees and traveling expenses. They learned later on that their respective employers paid US$1,000 each and this would be deducted from their monthly salaries. Junie’s salary deduction every month was $100 which she didn’t really mind at all.
Junie met new friends during day-offs . She attended birthday parties of other domestics. She met a certain Ronnie from Batangas who’s also a first timer in Taiwan. Ronnie worked in a factory and supported his parents and 4 siblings by sending money religiously.
They became close friends. Both single, they became sweethearts and spent a lot of their day-offs together.
After 5 months, Junie got pregnant. Afraid and not ready to have a baby, afraid to jeopardize her employment in Taiwan, Junie decided to abort her baby. Another DH recommended some pills and concoctions which caused her to bleed the following day. Good bye baby.
Junie didn’t even tell Ronnie what happened and their relationship continued until one day Ronnie left Taiwan. Junie was brokenhearted but Ronnie promised that he would come back. They stopped communicating and Junie said she didn’t know what happened to Ronnie after that.
Thinking about the abortion made Junie teary-eyed. She said she also felt guilty but she was young and afraid.
After her Taiwanese employers moved to Canada, Junie started looking for another employer before her working visa expired. But she found out she was pregnant so she hurriedly went home to the Philippines.
She didn’t want to abort the baby because she said she regretted the first time she did it and did not want to do it again.
Junie gave birth to a boy who’s chinky-eyed.
