I was flying to Seattle the day after I arrived in SFO to visit a family friend and to visit and bond with my other love but I lost one day due to the 16.5 hours flight delay and the weather was bad in Seattle. It would be raining for several days, not a good time to visit.
I just decided to spend two nights in Napa Valley (December 18, 19, 20) where the weather was predicted to be glorious for a few days.
The last time Edmund and I rode the wine train was maybe 8 years ago. That time the tickets were almost a hundred dollars per person which I found expensive. Today the least expensive ticket is $151 per person up to more than $300 depending on the package. I don’t do wine tasting so I just opted for the basic package of $151++.
The Napa Valley Wine Train is a 20th-century vintage Pullman train that looks like it’s straight from an old Hollywood movie. It has plush luxury armchairs and matching draperies. It goes on a 36-mile round-trip from Main Street to St. Helena and back. There are packages where you can stop to visit other wineries for some wine-tasting.
The train gives you a glimpse of the lush vineyards and quaint surroundings of Napa.
Along the train tracks are art installations purposely situated for the enjoyment of the tourists.
The best part of the train ride experience is the food. The package includes a 4-course gourmet meal. Wine pairing is extra.
