Instead of taking a short cab ride to Yu Yuan Garden in Old Shanghai, my daughter dragged me into taking the MRT. It only took us 10 minutes including the walk from the hotel to the train station. Yu yuan Garden is only one or two stops away from the East Nanjing Road train station. We paid 3 yuan for each person, each way.

We didn't know which direction to take when we got out of the train station. We tried asking a few pedestrians but to no avail. Even the most cosmopolitan looking person couldn't speak English.

We just followed the crowd. They must be going also to the same Yu yuan Garden. Most of the tourists are locals, so we just followed their steps.

Stepping into this street felt like I am stepping into a movie set. I felt like a props in a movie about and in China, during the olden times. There was a feeling of a deep sense of pride and sadness at the same time. Pride because my father was born in China. Sadness because I wish he is also seeing what I am seeing right at this very moment. Sayang, sana buhay pa sya. He would feel proud too of his heritage.

Old Shanghai is a MUST SEE when visiting Shanghai. I am glad Julienne found this on Google. Despite the 5 degrees temperature today, I was able to explore this area on foot and survived the biting cold. My excitement and awe provided my body with the body heat and adrenaline rush. Julienne lived in New York for 5 years, kayang-kaya nya ang ginaw at syempre bata, malakas pa ang resistensya sa lamig.
