We had a very good night sleep and we woke up in the mood to explore places other than restos and shops. Julienne googled this place called Yu Yuan Garden or the OLD SHANGHAI and she wants to take pictures. It’s actually walking distance from Nanjing Road only if you know the direction. It’s hard to get lost because asking for directions could be futile and frustrating.
My daughter is a 5-year veteran of the New York subway system. She has more confidence in dealing with this. She finds pleasure in the challenges of going to the subway, buying tickets, looking at the maps. Ako naman, I find it stressful and it gives me anxiety. I just want to take the taxi.
Today I gave in to her wish to try the Shanghai metro train in going to Yu Yuan Garden. She promised me that it’s only one stop away from Nanjing. In freezing temperature the two of us walked about 3 blocks to the MRT train station nearest to our hotel.
The train station is first class, extremes from the dirty and dark NY subway. Shanghai’s is ultra clean, well lit, with granite floors and many security people. I actually felt like I was in a shopping mall.
