I wasn’t able to go to the “pa-syam” of Mrs. Lydia Maycacayan last thursday evening. I got home from Makati at almost 8 pm, I was tired and it was too late already to go to Binangonan and back. Apologies to Matet and Vic Simon. Matet said sa 40th na lang daw.

After my Kuya Ben passed away, one night at around 12 midnight, I was standing in front of our altar at home, the lights were off except one at the stairs’ landing. I think I was saying a little prayer and inaayos ko yung mga statues kasi ginulo nung maid na naglinis. All of a sudden there was a butterfly that flew by or something that I thought was a butterfly. I turned my head to the right to look at it, but it disappeared. I stood there for a few minutes wondering what it was. Could it be a spirit? Then the thought of my brother entered my mind. Could it be that Kuya Ben was visiting me? Then it suddenly dawned on me that that day was his 40th day. I lifted my right hand and waved slowly and said “hi Kuya”. My tears were falling when I walked back to our bedroom. My tears flowed even while I was already in bed. Strange things happen in our lives. There’s no explanation or maybe it was just my imagination. When I was little, I heard from my parents that souls of the dead remain on earth for 40 days and after that, they leave. I wish that our love ones never leave us. But they do, that’s nature’s law.
Maybe that was my brother visiting me before he left the earth, forever.
