Boy Abunda (and Bianca Gonzales) interviewed one of the richest and most successful Filipinos, Engr. Dado Banatao, 66, orginally from Cagayan, now based in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley, California.
He was born in Cagayan, Valedictorian of his class at the Ateneo de Tuguegarao, Cum-Laude at the Mapua Institute of Technology. He was already working for Boeing in Seattle, Washington at the age 0f 22. Boeing sponsored his masteral degree at the University of Washington. He saved his own money and went to Stanford University in Palo Alto and finished his Masters in Electrical Engineering and another one in Computer Science. Masipag talaga syang mag-aral!
He owns a resort in California, several luxury homes, a collection of fast cars and flies his own jumbo jets.
He has billions in U.S. dollars and yet is very unassuming. He and his wife have 3 children and seven grandchildren.
What I liked most during the interview was his pronouncement that he wants to give back. It’s always commendable when a Filipino, despite his tremendous success in another country, never forgets that he’s first and foremost a Filipino. Engr. Banatao and his team would be helping a lot of talented Filipinos succeed.
