I was so tensed last wednesday, September 26, that I totally forgot WBCP’s general meeting at 12 noon. I wrote it down on my notebook but for some reason, I didn’t look at my notes and just totally forgot about it. I left the office at 2 pm and attended to certain things before heading home to rest, put-on make-up, got my gown from Amir Sali, etc.
My friend Maymay Liechtenstein called me up just last thursday reminding me to go to the ball. She’s one of this year’s Best Dressed Women awardee. I have been asked by Pitoy Moreno five years ago if I wanted to be an awardee but I politely turned it down. It was an honor but parang hindi ko type. To begin with, I always look losyang, I hate dressing-up.
I had no more gown to wear so I rushed to Amir. The good thing about Amir Sali is that I trust him so much that I don’t mind what he creates, I just wear them.
Look at this blue fabric, Amir Sali recently went to Denmark with a princess of Saudi Arabia and he bought 4 yards of this.
I have very few cosmetics. I don’t buy a lot, only when I ran out. I do my own make-up. I don’t like going to the beauty parlor and staying for long hours, naiinip ako.
Amir asked what kind of earrings I would wear with this dress. I just wore a pair of simple earrings and tied my hair.
Nice yung palda ‘no? Uupo lang naman ako, I don’t think people would even notice.

Lior Liechtenstein and Sandy Poblador
Ambassador Harry Thomas has found a Filipina friend and she’s gorgeous.
Sylvia Lichauco-de Leon (in gold) was on the other side of the table when I heard her saying “what a beautiful gown, I like your gown…..” Ako pala yung sinasabihan so I stood up and told her my gown was made by Amir Sali. Nilapitan nya ako and looked closer at my gown.
“Is he a foreigner?” No, Amir is half-Filipino and half-Malaysian. Half-girl din sya, joke only Amir. Sylvia said she liked the color, etc. Lauren seconded “Tita, it’s really nice”. (thank you)
Here comes Johnny, the program was about to start…. to be continued.
It is a beautiful dress, Ms. Tan-Yee. I’m surprised that the fabric was sourced from Denmark. I don’t really think of it as a place to buy fabric. Anyway, too bad you didn’t put a full length picture.
I did not give justice to the dress, it looked like a maternity dress.
Amir gets his fabrics mostly from Europe.
