He was a refugee from Sudan

Uber driver was able to go to America as a refugee from Sudan. There was a civil war in their country and there were thousands of Sudanese who were given refugee status by the UN and about 50,000 of them are now Sudanese Americans.

He first landed in New York where the emigrants from South Sudan are concentrated. There were Sudanese Americans living in other areas such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington, D.C., etc.

His friends, who arrived in the US two years sooner, advised him to move to Las Vegas instead where money was easier to earn.

He said he liked Las Vegas a lot and enjoys its hot sunny weather, The heat doesn’t bother him because it’s even hotter in Sudan.

He said he first worked as a taxi driver but after more than a year nothing was happening in his life. Encouraged by others, he boldly bought a brand new SUV and became an Uber partner / driver. And there’s no more turning back. He is extremely happy with his earnings of US$5,000 a month. His vehicle’s monthly amortization is only $350. He still has plenty of money left each month to send to his parents, siblings, and to his wife. He is planning to have a vacation in Sudan next year and to petition his wife so she could come to America. Before she arrives, he will buy a house in Vegas so they could start a family. Beat that!
