Exactly a year ago today, my daughter arranged for a special birthday cake with matching happy birthday song to surprise her dad.
Edmund thought the three of us were only having a simple dinner and he was surprised when the waiters came out singing.
What made the moment funny was the discovery that the butlers didn’t know how to sing the kind of birthday song we all know.
Their song was an endless “a happy birthday, a happy birthday, a happy birthday… a happy birthday….” This made the greetings even more memorable.
Now, a year later, we still talk about that birthday song and Oyen said it’s something we will remember for the rest of our lives. When we greet each other happy birthday, we now sing in the same way, ah happy birthday, ah happy birthday and we all start laughing. It has become a family joke.
