Seda Hotel’s location in Iloilo is very good but we were not happy with our stay there. There were several misses.
They failed to clean our room one time. They forgot to replenish the tissue papers and towels.
One night we couldn’t sleep because the music coming from a nearby bar or restaurant was so loud. I was hoping they would stop at midnight. But came 1 am, the sound was still vibrating on my toes, knees, chest and brain. At exactly 1 am I phoned the front desk and complained about the noise. I asked if they could do something about it. I asked if there are any regulations about noises and she said yes there is. Pwedeng mag-ingay up to 2 am. What? I thought that was ridiculous. The local government or barangay should change this policy. Dapat loud sounds up to 10 pm only if the place is open/ not sound insulated or sound proofed. If up to midnight, then they must tone down the volume to a level not obtrusive to neighbors. It was not the hotel’s fault but if it’s going to be this noisy again next time we come here on a weekend, then we don’t want to check in here.
The next day the hotel irritated my husband to no end. Edmund’s two classmates / friends came by the hotel to say hello to him. They were very excited to come over and have a tete a tete with him. When they inquired at the front desk the female staff told them my husband had already checked out. So the two guys left. Edmund found out about it when his friends called looking for him. They thought he had left for Manila.
Apparently what happened was when the two guys looked for Edmund Yee, the front desk officer concluded that they were looking for Edgar Yee. Edgar and his wife had checked out earlier and were back in Manila. She did not think that there could be other Yees. She did not scan their guest list to be sure they were looking for the same person or Edgar Yee was the only guest they had. It did not occur to her that there could be guests with the same names.
Edmund was so mad. He lectured the front desk officer over the phone. She kept talking while Edmund was also talking. She sent a standard / pre-composed apology letter and a basket of fruits as peace offering.
The following morning we went to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel to check out their facilities and location.
It’s near the Iloilo Convention Center
There’s a big mall walking distance from Marriott but I would not feel comfortable walking at night.
The ceilings are high and the room sizes are okay.
The finishes are definitely more luxurious than in Seda Hotel.
The ambiance is few notches higher but Seda Hotel’s advantage is its adjacent to commercial establishments.
What’s the verdict? Don’t know yet. We are going back to Iloilo soon that’s why we’re looking for a hotel to stay.
