After watching the Journey concert at the Colosseum, we had ten minutes to run to Chef Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill casino restaurant for our 10:15 pm dinner reservation. Oyen booked a table for an early Noche Buena. It was a perfect schedule: concert 8-10 pm, Buena Noche 10:15 – 11:30 pm, then the fireworks at midnight.
The waiter assigned to our table is a Kapampangan named Raul. He started out in Hawaii then moved to Las Vegas 15 years ago because he liked the cooler weather. When the intense summer came, he told himself “I didn’t sign up for this”, but he stayed. He is happy here and it shows.
I normally don’t order lobster but when my son told me there’s black truffle, ay sige, yan ang gusto ko. I told the waiter I wanted the truffle to be bigger than the lobster.
More than the location and the food, what matters the most is family togetherness. I was grateful for this moment that the four of us were sharing a meal together to welcome the new year. Thank you Lord for this wonderful blessing.
