My friend Madeline works at the Ophthalmology Department of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland.
There are some areas in Oakland that are not so ideal.
Someone close to her officemate was walking somewhere in Oakland when her necklace was snatched by a man who’s skin was darker than ours. The thief came back after several minutes and threatened to kill her if she doesn’t swallow her necklace because it’s allegedly fake. This poor lady had no choice but to swallow it.
She’s now in the hospital while doctors are still trying to determine how to best remove the necklace from her body.
Suggestions on how to avoid this unfortunate situation?
1. Don’t wear big pieces of jewelry. Very hard to swallow.
2. Wear small pearl necklace instead, or pearl-looking necklace. These round beads could easily pass through your________ like corn kernels.
3. If you want to wear fake accessories, make sure they really look and scream “I am fake” so there’s no mistaking by the thief. He would not even bother to snatch it.
4. If you’re wearing genuine ones, bring a certificate from the store. Thieves may not be able to tell the difference.
5. Better not to wear any accessory, fake or not when you’re going to places that are not ideal.
Let’s all be safe. Happy weekend to all.
