May 1, 2022,
Edmund’s older brother Edward arrived from Vancouver for a few weeks’ visit, and to lend support to his politician friends running for public office in Iloilo. He and I have the same presidential candidate.
Today the Yees are having casual lunch at their mother’s garage cum lanai. Edmund and I arrived at almost 2 pm because he came from golf.
Although the streets are narrow in this subdivision and parking is scarce Edmund decides to bring his new Ford F150 truck (plugging). I tell you, every time I ride on this one it never fails to wow me. The front sit could fit two payat adults. Perfect when I have apo already, the two of us could sit together. So roomy, so comfy, panoramic, and feels luxe. If I were a guy, with a big garage, I would buy one of these. Teka, sold out na yata?

The Yees are done eating when we arrived. Some are having dessert and the young ones are enjoying a few sips of sparkling rose wine.

My husband is so politically charged and likes to spark a political debate. He asks each and every person present to justify or explain why they are choosing their respective presidential candidates.
They all have nice things to say about their chosen candidate of course. All are valid and no argument there.
Me naman wala akong energy to explain my choice of candidate. Basta iboboto ko sya tapos.
Political debates do not lead anywhere except animosity and discord. It’s the least of my interest.
Edward was in politics before but he realized it was not something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He and his whole family are happily settled and flourishing in Vancouver. Mas mahaba daw ang buhay ng mga tao sa Canada. The life expectancy in the Philippines has dropped to 65 years old whereas in Canada it’s in high 80s according to him. Abah, lumipat na tayo sa Canada. I want to live up to 98. Dati 88 lang eh bata pa pala 88, kaya 98 na lang. Mukha na siguro akong kalansay pag 98 ako. Kalansay na malaki ang tiyan.
I am sweating from head to toe. It’s warm and humid. There’s aircon inside the house but we’re here outside because we are practicing social distancing and avoiding any risk of infecting their 86-year-old mom. It could also be that I am seated beside Edmund Yee who is so hot and fired up talking about political candidates.
The presidential election is only a week away and everyone is excited. Survey says our next president will be Bongbong Marcos. Let’s wish him well and give him our maximum support. We all want the same things for our country— peace, stability, prosperity.
2:30 pm
The Yees hail from Antique, and Iloilo. The first 5 children were born in Antique, while the last two were born in Manila. Their father died when I wasn’t married yet to Edmund. He was fairly young at age 50. Kaya na trauma si Edmund, feeling nya he would also die at 50. Their mother (seated, pink dress) had a series of botched knee operations which didn’t help her at all. Kaya hayan ang sinasabi ko lagi, basta pasyal ng pasyal while we can still walk, while we can still see. Mahirap ng mamasyal pag masakit na ang tuhod at likod.
