We have a tall high window in the great room, another living room actually. The glass panels are clear and I leave it like that, no curtains or shades whatsoever. That area doesn’t get direct sunlight so I really have no intention to put window coverings. I find no necessity to cover it more so because we don’t have a back neighbor. The back area is covered with tall trees.
During clear sunny days, sometimes we see little birds like maya fly straight into it and hit their heads. Some are shaken from the impact but after the initial shock the birds begin to flap their winds and fly again.
The other morning was different. Oyen heard a loud thud while she was in her room. Although Edmund and I were in the dining area which was closer to the window, we didn’t hear the sound of a bird hitting the window panel.
When we looked there was a big bird, 8 to 10 inches long lying on its back on the garden table. It wasn’t moving. Edmund went out, touched it and tried to revive it but it was dead already. No movement. It probably died upon impact. Due to the force, it bounced backwards and fell on the table, another blow to its injured body.
Kawawa. Until now I still feel guilty and responsible for its death.
We don’t want a repeat of that tragic situation. An innocent and great looking bird killed because it thought it was flying thru an open space. But at the same time I don’t want to cover our glass window panels or put blinds or draperies . It’s going to be dark inside our house. Hindi na sya maaliwalas.
