Singer- actress Agot Isidro was reportedly victimized by dugo-dugo gang. Her maid who’s been under her employ for two years destroyed her vault and took her pesos and $1,000 including precious jewelries in the total amount of three million pesos.
The maid allegedly received a call from a woman who told her that Agot Isidro met a vehicular accident and needed the cash and jewelries. The maid was instructed to destroy open Agot Isidro’s vault.
Why was the maid able to go out of the gated subdivision without a gate pass signed by Agot Isidro? Dito sa village namin, merong maid dala-dala yung alahas at pera pero nahuli ng gwardya, she wasn’t allowed to go out of the gate because she had no gate pass.
Why is it that in spite of heavy tv warnings about dugo-dugo gangs, many are still victimized by this modus operandi? What should we do to protect us from our maids who would either be in connivance or simply too ignorant to follow our instructions to just put down the phone when someone calls asking for the jewelries and money?
1. Since our maids and drivers have cellphones, let us seriously think of cutting off our land lines. Here at home, we use it for two reasons, internet bundle and to contact the village security office.
2. Tell the maids and drivers— we don’t keep cash anywhere in the house. All my jewelries are with me, eto o suot ko na, we don’t have any more left here at home or anywhere else.
3. Tell them they will rot in jail if they ransack your cabinets and steal your cash and jewelries.
4. If you have a vault, keep it away from your maids’ eyes. They shouldn’t know that you even have one.

Suggestions from OMB reader Bessie:
a) Create a password or a challenge question with a corresponding answer that only the home owners and the maids / yaya / driver / house boy / tindera would know. ( that can be changed periodically )
b) House help employees should call the home owners directly sa celphone nila to verify.
c) Home owners should provide a contingency contact numbers of people they trust like relatives and close friends to help the maids et al. calm down and to explain to them what is happening. To avoid yun “natataranta” scenario ng maids.
e) If possible let the house help employees attend seminar re this modus operandi.

e) If possible let the maids, et al. attend a seminar re this modus operandi. ( meron ba sa agency?)
