I didn’t have time to preview the paintings prior to the Leon Gallery auction. I didn’t even have an advanced copy of their book. I just looked at the items on line. Even if I didn’t have plans of buying, it would have been fun to be mesmerized by the magnificent works of art.
Exactly a week after Leon Gallery’s The Magnificent auction in Legazpi Street, came the Salcedo Auctions’ The Well Appointed Life in Rockwell.
I went the day before to preview some of the art. The collections were impressive. I took photos of some of those that I found interesting. These are pieces I could not afford.
Mere looking is good enough for me

The hammer price could reach double than this indicative prices.
Arturo Luz is another pride of my alma mater University of Santo Tomas. He is a Philippine National Artist awardee for visual arts. He’s 89 years old.
Big Araceli Dans paintings could reach well over a million pesos. A medium sized one is in the 400k – 600k range. I saw a small painting at her home selling for 1.6M.
Estimated price around 5M. (Advanced info, this painting was sold at well over ten million pesos).
This painting by Juan Luna would be the star of the show.
Estimated to fetch well over 20M
Portrait of Rosa Nalda Gil by Hidalgo
This portrait by Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo was also expected to fetch at least ten million pesos.
Let’s find out how much art collectors were willing to pay for these valuable art.

I am reading about Art Bubble in the western world market. i guess we are now infected. These paintings are nice but some are not purely original in ideas. I see Picasso
Dear Joey, I was just telling /Edmund that I noticed there were very similar subjects and styles. His explanation was that artists study the works of other known or more senior / successful artists. They’re styles influenced other upcoming artists.
Art craze—- true, I see a surge in interests in art. My husband told me the other night that I was infected by the art bug.
