Clothes for Poor People

I invaded my son’s closets and found lots of polo shirts that were unworn, naluma na sa aparador. There were a few with tag prices still attached.

I checked each one of them to make sure I don’t make the mistake of giving away my son’s favorite polo shirts. Even if he lives abroad, those are still his things and I should ask him first if I could give them away. Knowing how compassionate he is, I am sure he would say yes, but still, I have to make sure I keep those he particularly likes.

Whoever receives any of these polo shirts would be happy. They are perfect to wear in the office or for job interviews. They all look new and smart. Minsan parang nakakahinayang to give away but other people will have better use for these clothes. Otherwise they will just gather dust in the my son’s closet for years to come.

I donated my son’s clothes together with Edmund’s shirts, towels, blanket, my clothes, and those that were donated by some OMB readers, to the Missionaries of Charity in Tondo. I entrusted them to Sister Monica Grace who promised to distribute to the poor people around the area. I also donated some cash to buy rice. I think once a week the squatters in the area line up outside the missionaries’ gate for food. Kahit konting pera, pandagdag din sa budget ng mga madre.

Sister Monica Grace asked me if the clothes are clean. I assured her they are generally new, clean and very nice. She told me kasi daw others send old clothes that are dirty and no longer usable.

When I was small one of my dreams was to have a garden set similar to this. Since we didn’t have a garden, naturally my mom didn’t buy a garden set. When I visit houses with garden sets, tuwang-tuwa ako, and how I wished we also have. But for some reason, that dream vanished. I do have a garden set in our lanai but it’s not similar to that. Hmmm, sige nga bibili ako ng ganyan yung kapareho talaga nyan lumang style just to complete that little girl’s dream.

I was supposed to go to Baseco Compound from the Missionaries of Charity but I changed my plan at the last minute. It was past 3 pm and I didn’t want to be out there at night.

Driver D—–“Ah duon, dun sssaaaaa…. yung maraming squatters”.
Sgt. Pepper—–“Alam ko yun, sa Smokey Mountain!”
Driver D——–“Hinde, yung B… Bri…. Bri…..”
Sgt. Pepper—–“Britain?”‘
Sgt. Pepper—–“Mam, kailangan maaga tayo, delikado dun”.
A——“Sige, balik na lang tayo, agahan natin”.
