My sister prepared a lot of food for dinner on our last day in the US.
Parang despedida meal.
She bought fresh seafood from Ranch 99 Market in Union City.
Fresh clam soup. Bagay na bagay for lactating mothers. Dadami ang milk.
Tsup tsup.
Roasted duck.
My late father never failed to buy roast duck for Edmund whenever Edmund’s coming.
He used to buy pa from Chinatown in San Francisco.
My father knew that I loved crabs. Kaya nuong buhay pa sya, whenever I would visit, he would buy the blue crabs for me. My sister knows that too, kaya ngayon, she goes out of her way to serve crabs whenever I’m around. But we buy the Dungeness crabs not the alimasag. Ang mahal pa mandin, tila $17 a piece or a pound.
Fried boneless bangus. Perfect with steamed hot rice.
Len makes the best tomato salsa.
Isang swimming pool na milon (melon juice), a Tan family favorite. Nakalakihan ko na ito sa Binangonan. When it’s melon fruit season, we always had melon juice.
Lagi akong inuutusan ng mama ko “magtimpla ka nga ng milon”.
