Food Contamination

There have been so many incidences of food poisoning lately from durian candies and other food.

I promised myself I will never go into restaurant business, but two days ago, this crazy idea entered my mind. I will open nga a bulalo restaurant in Tagaytay. Maybe next year. I still have to learn the ropes of the business. I have several waitresses and cook applicants from Bulalo restaurants that were destroyed by the strong typhoon last year. Sino na nga ba yung bagyo na yun?

It must really be hard to maintain the food’s quality. Must be 100% free from any contamination. Merong may ubo, sipon, wala na contaminated na.

When I was buying mushroom burger, the food attendants were talking and giggling while wrapping the food, hello laway sprinkle.

Dito sa bahay namin, I forbid the maids to open their mouths, bawal to chat while in front of our food, whether they’re cooking or chopping onions. Basta bawal.

There are other factors too. Humangin, may alikabok, may buhok, may dumi, may lumundag na langgam, may langaw, etc. How are these avoided?

Even reputable restaurants are not spared. Edmund almost swallowed a staple wire while enjoying his favorite burrito at Chipotle. Kimberly found a staple wire in her mouth while eating FIC vanilla ice cream. Edmund found shrimp shells on his salad plate at Red Ribbon in Greenhills. Oyen ate half of the hamburger full of 1/2 inch long strands of hair at the Unimart coffee shop. Oyen ate a good portion of spoiled mango creme pie from a restaurant in Podium. Oyen ate half of a spoiled pancake delivered to our room at the Mandarin in Singapore. I chewed on a two inches wire that came from the Oyster Rockefeller at Antonio’s in Tagaytay. There’s an inch of hair at the bottom of my salad plate in Sonya’s Garden. There was a big fly in our soup at a restaurant in Burgos Circle. Techie chewed on big pieces broken glasses while eating bottled macapuno at a town fiesta.
Unidentified floating objects(UFO) were inside a softdrink bottle. Okay lang if they’re just floating, unfortunately, I drank the contents. Buti na lang buhay pa ako, unlike those two people who drank pearl tea.

A few hours ago, my son took home Chicken Joy from Jollibee in Greenmeadows. While eating in his room here at home, he found this thingy mixed with the rice.

We couldn’t tell what this is. It’s not a bird.

Unidentified object, Jollibee july 25, 2015

Have you experienced something like this? Have you seen a UFO in your drink or soup?

  1. Good thing he didn’t swallow it! I’ve seen strange things in my food as well. I even saw a fruit fly (near my food) at Jean Georges.

  2. I also experience the same 🙁 For some reason I don’t why I’m the one who almost always gets food with the contamination in the family. Maybe because i have sharper eyes, while the rest mindlessly swallow their food without looking?

I’ve recently eaten a clubhouse sandwich with worm inside. This was at Coffee Prince, a small Korean coffee shop at the ground floor of a condo near DLSU Taft. I noticed the staff do not wear hairnets too. And they probably don’t wash the lettuce properly before adding it to sandwiches, hence the worm!

Finding hair whether pilik-mata or a thick strand is also a common occurrence. Eeew it ruins my appetite any day. Another pet peeve are fingerprints on plates when waiters place them on the table. That’s why even if it’s nakakahiya, I wipe the plates and utensils with my own paper napkin before using them. My mom used to ask for hot water in a glass to soak our utensils too. Because most of them set up the table the night before, kahit hotels pa! We don’t even know if cockroaches crawl out when the lights are out…

It’s really hard to guarantee sanitation unless you prepare your own food yourself. I guess the key is having a good immune system to fight off any germs from food establishments?

  3. I stand corrected, itthe establishment is called Duke’s Coffee Place not Coffee Prince
