After I arrived from California a few weeks ago, I noticed how cluttered our house was. Kalat here and there. Clutter is part of a house that’s lived in. However, the kalats must gel with the overall personality of the house if there’s such a thing.

In an effort to declutter, I started sorting out a stack of paper and old school notebooks sitting at a corner in our study room. It took me a day to sort them out. I didn’t want to throw some away kasi merong notes from my kids, pwede yun remembrance.

For the past 9 years, the positions of our furniture have remained pretty much the same. The basic arrangements are the same, where the dining tables are, the sofas, the display cabinets. Occasionally I would just rearrange the accessories, flower vases, decors. But the paintings hanging on the walls are stationary.

I contemplated on rearranging the furniture in the living room but I was hesitant at first because of the hassle of moving big and heavy pieces around. What if I didn’t like the new positions, then I would have to carry them back to their original places. Then last weekend, I gave in to the itch. I switched the sofas in the den with the chairs in the great room.

I also moved the two accent chairs to the great room to compliment the sofas.

I was fifty percent pleased with the results. Half-pleased only because the traditional upholstered sofas fit perfectly well in the great room, but the love seat and 4 wing chairs didn’t.

I am thinking of moving them again to where the formal dining table is. I took some measurements if the table would fit in the den, yes it would. But I have a major stumbling block. There’s a tv in the den. If I convert that into a formal dining area, the tv would be displaced. Edmund watches tv there once in a while. Maybe I should get his nod first. Or just do it and let him watch tv na lang in our bedroom.

May our home (yours too) be always filled with love and laughter.
