My blog posts are always delayed. It’s impossible for me to blog in real time. For Scotland and UK trip, I am 40 posts behind. Chances are they will be overtaken by events because I am traveling again in a few days. I have unfinished posts from 2013, 2014, 2015, and I have not even posted our trip of a life time. Maybe next year I’ll have time to blog about it pero nalimutan ko na kung anong nangyari. But I have to insert and document it still even 5 years later because OMB is first and foremost my diary. When I want to remember where I was or names of places, I look here.
April 11, 2017
I was by myself because my daughter joined the non-golfer families of the other golfers for a tour of Glamis Castle, the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth the Mother Queen.
I walked to the Old Town and for lunch, I went to Forgan’s Restaurant.
We actually attempted to have an early supper here the other day but they could not accommodate us because we didn’t have prior reservation. Apparently, Forgan’s is a very popular restaurant around here and it gets good reviews.
I walked in. I was confident I’d have no problem in getting a table because it was midday, not dinner, not lunch.
The restaurant is at the back of this vegetable and fruit alley
They have lamb on the menu. My son loves lamb.
I ordered the steamed mussels with white wine, garlic and cream.
Easter pala is well celebrated here. Families gather together, eat out. Di ba that’s nice?
I didn’t expect this place to be this big. It’s like a barn converted into a restaurant. The interior designers did a great job. I was beginning to feel nostalgic. My papa had a few big kamalig in Wawa, Libis, Binangonan. Some features of Forgan’s design brought forth some feelings of nostalgia. I miss my parents.
There were many vacant tables. I knew it, no reservations required when it’s in between lunch and dinner.
And how lovely is that? You can have a wedding reception here.
There are private corners for a more intimate or formal dining.
It was 3 pm, I was starving. The waiter brought a bowl of lemon water. I thought it was soup. Muntik ko ng higupin kasi gutom na gutom na talaga ako. I only figured it was NOT SOUP when I noticed the floating cubes of ice.
I ordered a small bowl of steamed mussels with white cream.
The mussels were soft. The cream was delicious.
The bowl was big but not full. When you order the regular size, this bowl would be full of mussels.
I was oblivious to my surroundings. My focus was on my food. I just kept on slurping the cream soup and eating the mussels with my bare hands. When I lifted my head, I noticed the guy to the left looking at me. I was thinking maybe he was curious about what I was eating and wanted to order the same thing. Then he started saying something. I froze while still holding the mussels with my left hand. I looked at him trying to understand what he was saying. He was clearly speaking to me. I thought he was asking about my food. Then he said “It’s your ring. Your ring. I was looking at your ring. It’s nice”. I didn’t quite get it at first. Then I said “Oh, thank you”.
My bill was BP 6.45, ang tipid ko.
I’ve been avoiding using my credit card ever since we touched down in UK. Let’s see until when I could control myself. Credit card companies in the Philippines add 2 pesos for every pounds sterling or Euro or dollar charged. That’s huge. I refuse to make them richer.
