I regretted letting the furniture maker with a shop in Greenhills come to our house yesterday afternoon to look at my old dining tables. They were very distracted. As soon as they came in, ang sabi “Ay mam, pamatay naman, grabe naman pala ang bahay nyo, nakamamatay”.
Nabasa nya siguro yung karatula sa Ortigas Ave– Bawal tumawid nakamamatay.
Siguro they are used to supplying to condominiums, not in single detached houses. Hindi pa kami nakapagsisimula, parang gusto ko na silang itaboy, baka dito pa sila sa bahay namin abutin.
They just spent time looking at my stuff and asking questions about the details. Nag-usyoso lang bale. And the bad thing pa, when I was at their shop in Greenhills, they quoted me P7,500 for a brand new chair from Pampanga, including the painting and upholstery. The refinishing and re-upholstery naman daw ay P5,000. After they’ve been to our place, the brand new chair is now P10,000 a piece. The refurbishing is P7,000 each. Tila yata sobrang mahal.
The store manager brought along the owners pero hindi naman pala marunong mag-compute. She just made usyoso my furnishings. She called her husband who was dazed naman while here.
Every time I would ask Mrs. wife owner how much it would cost to refurbish a chair, her answer was always “depende sa gravity”.
Omb——-“Liliyahin yung varnish, tapos masilyahan at saka pinturahan ng off white. Palitan din itong covers. Magkano isa?”
Owner—–“Gaano ka gravity?”
Our kitchen area is so dark, so brown. Brown cabinets, brown floor, brown table and chairs. Dark granite tops. When we were building kasi the house, syempre dapat merong compromise. My husband wanted varnished cabinets kaya I agreed.
I want to repaint this into a lighter color. Sayang naman palitan kasi buo pa. P60,000 daw to refinish the 10 chairs and one table.
I got tired attending to them, so I asked them to leave. “Mag text na lang tayo”.
After an hour, I received their quotation.
I would most likely not order any furniture from them. Thinking about them makes me tired already.
Ms Annie.. That’s the problem with some of our furniture makers.. Pag nasa territory ka nila, ang baba ng quotation.. Pero pag nakita na nila where u live, bigla mag-e-escalate ang dating presyo nila… 🙁 It seems as if they base their prices according to ur location and how big ur house is and how expensive ur furnitures are… 🙁
Kaya nga sabi nila dba, DEPENDE SA GRAVITY… :-))
Gravity daw? Eh mas Gravity ang mga prices na sinasabi nila sayo eh… 😉

I read from Divine Lee’s blog, if I remember correctly, that Mandaue Foam reupholsters. Maybe they treat customers professionally.

Minsan mashado sila (for lack of a better term) “NAGAGAHAMAN” sa kikitain nila, to the point where they end up “MUKHANG PERA NA”, instead of giving a fair deal… 🙁
Kaya minsan, kahit anong GALING ng furniture maker, jan sila NASISIRA sa MALING PRINSIPYO… 🙁
In the end, they have MORE TO LOSE than to GAIN.. 🙁 SILA pa rin ang TALO kc MAS MALAKI ANG MAWAWALA sa kanila na PROFIT dahil sa pagiging GREEDY NILA… 🙁

Wow. How aggravating and corrupt. They could’ve given you a really good estimate just by pictures – not having to go to your house for a tour. Maybe one of your readers know a good craftsman/person in Pampanga. That way, you can go straight to the tradesperson.
