Sometime in January of this year, I checked the boxes of Champagne Dom Perignon kept in the cabinet in our bedroom, and to my dismay, some of them had leaked. The four that were still good, I transferred under our bed. It’s always cold in our room, and the champagne would be best kept there until I have a more permanent storage suitable for champagne.
The bottles were leaking and have a burnt coffee color and smell and obviously no way of saving them.
Nahinayang ako kasi they were vintage, from 2003.
I don’t drink Champagne but for some reason I am fond of buying Dom Perignon. Maybe in my past life I lived in France.
Dom Pérignon is a brand of vintage Champagne named after Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk who was a pioneer for premium Champagne wine. The first vintage of Dom Pérignon was 1921 and was only released for sale in 1936, sailing to New York. The brand, not exploited, was given by Champagne Mercier to Moët in 1927 for a wedding between the two families. (Wikipedia).
The ones that leaked and merited throwing out were vintage from 2003 and 2005. Sayang.
Last Monday, Theo crawled under our bed trying to reach for a toy that rolled under it. I peeked and saw the big box with liquor stains. The three bottles I kept under the bed had leaked. They too were 2003 vintage. Sayang talaga.
I only have a few bottles left, maybe 3. I will stop collecting this iconic sparkling wine. Nakakasama lang ng loob.
