Our daughter gave birth to her second baby at 4:14 pm. She and her baby boy stayed for several hours in the recovery room.
Finally, at eleven pm on August 25, our new apo was wheeled into room 804 with my daughter right behind him. Edmund and I waited for a long time, but we didn’t want to go home until we saw Oyen and our new apopoo.
Mother breastfeeds her newborn while the nurse assures her that she’ll have more milk production as the baby latches.
Two things we Filipinos traditionally ask —- “Matapos ba ang ilong? Maputi ba?”
Yes to both.
Edmund and I left the hospital at midnight with hearts full of joy and relief. We felt relieved that it was a successful delivery and that our daughter and her baby are both doing well.
When Theo was born, I stayed the whole time at the hospital 24/7 until they were discharged. But this time around, both my daughter and my son-in-law are now experienced parents, and they already know how to handle their tiny newborn. No need for me to assist them. The grandparents are instead assigned to take care of Theo while the parents are in the hospital.
