We stayed at Catalonia Puerta del Sol only for one night. It’s a charming 4-star hotel right in the heart of Madrid, Spain. Its location turned out to be perfect, surrounded by restaurants, cafés, and small shops, all within easy walking distance. It was nice to walk around, the streets were narrow so it’s easy to hop from one block to another.
We were originally supposed to stay in Madrid for just two nights. I had booked a hotel right across the train station since we were only passing through.
But because of changing schedules, especially the flights, our stay extended to three nights. Then we rerouted and ended up taking Cathay, which moved our arrival to March 24. We needed one more hotel night.
It was already too close to our travel date, and I had fully paid for the hotel near the train station. It was too late for me to cancel and book another hotel.
I needed to book one more night, but this time I chose a hotel closer to the city center instead of the station. Honestly, our plans kept changing that I got tired of revising everything. Parang napagod na ako.
I found Catalonia Puerta del Sol Hotel online. It looked fine in the photos, and the location seemed close to everything. So I thought, bahala na one night lang naman, and I booked it.
Before the trip, I told my husband, “Pagdating natin sa Madrid, matutulog lang tayo sa hotel. Magka-catch up on sleep tayo. Hindi tayo lalabas.” He agreed kasi kulang na kulang din siya sa tulog.
So that was our game plan: to spend our stay at Catalonia Puerta del Sol just resting and sleeping.
We ended up really liking Catalonia Puerta del Sol hotel unexpectedly. The location is surrounded by restaurants and small shops, and it’s so nice to walk around. The streets are narrow, making it easy to hop from one block to another. The front desk officer, Alessandro, and all the other staff were very nice.
The hotel has a beautiful stairwell that looks original.

And our room #104 was just great. Newly renovated. It looked new, smelled new, felt new. It was spacious, with a separate living room and its own big television—, so yes, we had two TVs. The sala even had a door for privacy. Habang nagkakape si Edmund, ako naman natutulog. We had our own separate spaces, plus a small lookout balcony.
I can’t say much about the other rooms. We stayed here, in Room 104, and it worked out perfectly for us.
