My father always brought home a cake on my birthday. When my brothers were already in college, it was their turn to make sure I would still get a cake on my birthday. Even if there was no party, basta merong cake.
It’s now my children who give me cake on my birthday. How lucky I am.
The cake designs now have evolved. They are now much simpler. The cakes before were decorated with hard flowers made of sugar. I used to keep those for souvenir, kahit nilalanggam na.
