I bought 124 year old plates - Oh My Buhay

I bought 124 year old plates

I just love the color blue. I get easily attracted to anything and everything blue.
I recently brought home eight pieces of 124-year old Flow blue Royal Doulton Watteau soup plates which can double as dinner plates, pasta plates, and dessert.

I bought them from an antique dealer. He claimed the plates have never been used by the former owner. He still has 12 pieces of dinner plates, tureen, etc. but I only got these soup plates. I chose them over the dinner plates for flexibility of use. Of course, he tried to convince me to take the matching set. Hindi na siguro kasi sobra ng mahal lalabas. He was telling me that that’s very cheap already. Replicas from China according to him cost P4,000 / plate.

His asking price was initially P3,900 per plate, then reduced to 3,500 then to 3,200, then to 2,700. I offered 20k for all the 8 pieces and he agreed.

This pattern I discovered is available online and those that are made in the 1904s sell for $25 – $50 depending on the year they were made and the condition if mint, chipped, scratched, used, unused.

I like the crispness of the blue color. It also looks translucent. He told me there are China-made ceramics that are copies of this design.

I should have an inventory list of my plates so I know if I am missing one, two, three, or all of it.
