Edmund and I attended the annual fund-raising dinner / opera of Johan Strauss Society of the Philippines wherein yours truly is a member. Dinner ticket sales, sponsorship and souvenir program ad proceeds would go to charity.
It was a black tie event but many wore formal barong. I didn’t require Edmund to wear black tie. Medyo too formal naman. We would just sit down, enjoy the food and the Austrian music. I wore a sparkly gown that didn’t quite suit my personality. But it was very comfortable and even had two pockets.
A JSSP event is never complete without Johnny Litton
Spouses George Young and Kristine Young
Formal dinners don’t start on time so it’s smart to come not too hungry or else one would finish all the complimentary bread and butter. When the invitation says 6:30, expect that dinner would be served at 8:30 pm the earliest.
The previous JSSP events were always at the Shangri-la Hotel in Makati. This time it’s at the ballroom of the New World Hotel.
Induction of new members. You would think it’s a line up at a beauty contest. The ladies all looked queenly in their resplendent gowns.
The best part of the event:
The mushroom soup with truffle oil was good.
We all had steak. The meat was very soft.
The Austrian concert started quite late, 9:30 pm, by that time, many old people (including me) were beginning to fall asleep.
The Austrian conductor was offered a business class ticket but he chose to seat in the economy so the fare difference could be added to the charity fund of Johan Strauss Society of the Philippines. What a nice and compassionate fellow.
We left earlier, so did Kristine Young, Joel Cruz, and the Belgian Ambassador. Ambassador Roland told us he’s sleepy. My husband was very cooperative, his eyes remained wide open while we’re seated.
